Police have identified the victim in Tuesday night's homicide in Metrotown.

Jwada Hedar-Kadhim, 47, of Burnaby was found in medical distress just before 9 p.m. in an apartment building in the 6500 block of Telford Avenue.

Despite all attempts to revive him, Hedar-Kadhim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to a press release from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Burnaby RCMP were called to the two-storey walk-up after a report of "an altercation in the lobby."

"It remains early in the investigation, but police believe there was a conflict leading up to the homicide and that this was not a random act of violence," reads the release. "IHIT continues to work with the Burnaby RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the B.C. Coroners Service to gather and process evidence. Investigators will remain in the area as the evidence gathering phase is still underway."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email [email protected]. For those wishing to stay anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
