The Burnaby RCMP is looking for whoever is responsible for vandalizing tires in Burnaby between Dec. 2 and 8, according to a press release.
The incidents occurred during late night and early morning hours in five separate areas of Burnaby and appear to be random, the Burnaby RCMP release stated. Each case involved multiple vehicles parked on streets and in parking lots.
"At a time of year when budgets are stretched to accommodate holiday celebrations and gift giving, additional financial strain is an unwelcome burden for us all," Chief Supt. Dave Critchley said in the release. "Bringing those responsible for these crimes to justice is a high priority for the Burnaby RCMP."
The recent vandalism spree is similar to other incidents that took place earlier this year in various locations throughout the city, the release said, and it is possible the same person or people are responsible.
Vandals have slashed or punctured the tires of approximately 249 vehicles in the city, with the financial toll of all the incidents surpassing $200,000, the release added.
