Burnaby RCMP are warning car owners about a surge in vehicle break-ins last weekend.

Dozens of cars were broken into Friday and Saturday night, with the first incident occurring in the 5700-block of Sidley Street on Friday night.

The next night, an underground parkade in the 6700-block of Willingdon Avenue saw multiple cars broken into.

While the monetary value of what was taken was relatively small, the break-ins meant a lot of inconvenience and possible increased insurance costs for the affected vehicle owners.

"Sometimes it takes just one person to go on a theft binge and this is the result," said Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Rick Skolrood.

Police are still looking for the person or persons responsible for these break-ins and are asking for people who notice anything unusual to call the police.

In addition, anybody who may have seen anything related to the Friday or Saturday incidents is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922.
