Police would like to talk to a Burnaby driver caught on video last month as he hit a teenaged pedestrian with his car and then talked to her briefly before driving off without exchanging information or reporting the collision.

Police were called to the intersection of Cumberland Street and 16th Avenue on Nov. 23.

At about 7:15 a.m., a 14-year-old girl had been walking to school when she was hit by a car while crossing the road, according to a Burnaby RCMP news release.

She sustained minor injuries, police said.

The driver initially stopped and walked toward the girl, who can be seen in a video of the incident limping across the road, but the driver then left the scene without exchanging information or reporting the incident.

Burnaby RCMP released the video in the hopes of identifying the driver.

“If you recognize the man or the vehicle in this video, please contact the police,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release. “If you are the man in the above video, please come forward and speak to our investigators.”

Contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
