Police are investigating a brawl that broke out in a Burnaby casino last week.

Officers were called to the Grand Villa Casino, just off Highway 1 on Dominion Street, for reports of a fight last Thursday just before midnight, according to an emailed statement from Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

On scene, officers found a man with minor injuries that needed stitches, Kalanj said.

“It appears the fight started between two groups of people inside the casino,” he said. “Multiple people became involved – including some bystanders. The fight was broken up by casino security.”

Many of the people involved have been identified, according to Kalanj, but some have been uncooperative with the investigation.

“It’s believed alcohol was a factor,” he said. “Investigators are looking at security video from the casino as part of the investigation.”

A video posted on Twitter captures some of the melee.

Several groups of men can be seen grappling and punching one another inside the casino.
