The Burnaby RCMP is hoping that technology and the public's assistance will help them find a suspected arsonist.

On Tuesday, June 21, video surveillance at the back of Metropolis at Metrotown, near the bus loop, revealed a man lighting a loading bay door on fire at approximately 10:45 p.m. The video also showed several witnesses at the scene, videotaping the fire on their cellphones.

The man remained at the scene and police believe his image may be on the cellphone video taken by witnesses. Members of the Burnaby RCMP economic crime unit are now working on the investigation and are asking the public's help in identifying the man.

If you witnessed the arson or have video in relation to the incident, please contact Const. Grace Hwang at 604-294-7670.
