Burnaby residents will see a slight jump in recreation and cultural facility fees this fall after city council approved the 2012/2013 facility use fee schedule on Monday night.
On average, fees will go up by 2.5 per cent, though some will not increase at all, and others will see higher or lower increases.
The city tries to keep most increases at about 2.5 per cent, Coun. Sav Dhaliwal pointed out at the meeting, despite the fact that many operating costs increase by more than that every year.
Facility rental fees, such as the gyms at Bonsor and Cameron recreation centres (up from $148.44 per hour in 2012 to $152.15 per hour in 2013) will increase slightly.
However, using the Burnaby Lake Pavilion for social purposes (but not by some types of clubs or organizations) will go from a base fee of $964.95 for eight hours to amounts ranging from $700 to $1,400 depending on the time and day of the week.
There'll be no increase for wedding parties and other social events at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and the Burnaby Art Gallery, but there is a small jump in fees for meeting and performance rentals.
Most sports fields - artificial, grass or all-weather - will also have small rate increases for practices and tournaments for varying age groups.
B-Active adult day passes will increase from $5.49 to $5.58, one-month passes will go up from $148.20 to $150.60 and year passes from $355.68 to $361.44.
The Burnaby Village Museum will not charge admission fees for the second season in a row, though the price of a carousel ride will go up by five cents, and rental fees for the facilities are also increasing.
The fee changes will be included in the city's fall leisure guide, though some of the increases will not come into effect until January 2013, Dhaliwal said.
