Vancouver police investigate city's 13th homicide of the year

Police do not believe this was a random crime.

Vancouver police are investigating the city's 13th homicide of the year after a 30-year-old Burnaby man died in hospital from his injuries.

Kevin Liew was found badly injured near Burnaby Hospital on Nov. 17 and was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster due to the seriousness of his injuries. Liew died Monday (Dec. 5) in hospital.

During the investigation, evidence gathered by police led them to an abandoned residence near 8th Avenue and Renfrew Street where Vancouver Police Department (VPD) homicide investigators believe the offence occurred. Investigators have been working for several days to collect evidence.

The VPD does not believe that this was a random crime and indicates there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.

Vancouver police have released a security photo of Liew taken on Nov. 14 at a SkyTrain station in Burnaby in hopes that someone will have information that could help solve the case.

Anyone with information that can assist with the investigation is asked to call 604-717-2500.
