Trail walkers are being warned after a weekend bear sighting at Burnaby Lake.

“We received a message that a bear has been spotted around Wildlife Rescue Association early this evening and could likely be the same one spotted a few days ago by the Rowing Pavilion,” tweeted the Burnaby Lake Park account.

This sighting was on the south side of the lake and east of the rowing pavilion.
BE BEAR SAFE!
• Never surprise a bear: make noise, talk loudly or wear a bear bell.
• If you see a bear, stay back 100 m.
• Never approach a bear and change your route.
• If you encounter a bear, stay calm and slowly back away.
• Help others stay safe by letting them know if there is one ahead so they can change routes.
• Ensure your pet is on a leash.
• Report your sighting to @wildsafebc
