The Burnaby Festival of Learning is set to return May 5 to 9.
The 2023 edition of the annual event will explore the theme of what belonging means to local residents, according to a city statement.
"How we belong to our communities, our homes, our places, can have a profound effect on how we come together in order to solve today’s pressing challenges," the release reads.
"In this time of increasing conflict, food insecurity and homelessness, come consider what it means to belong – to relations, to a place, a time, an idea – and explore how belonging shapes important parts of our lives: food, climate, reconciliation and home."
The festival will feature more than 35 free events, offering something for all ages and interests.
Some of the activities include:
- Avatar creations with Photoshop
- Burnaby Village Museum drop-in community rangoli installation
- Disability awareness workshop
- Dumpling and spring roll-making workshop
- Guichon Creek nature meditation session
- Invasive species basket weaving
- Story walk in Edmonds Park
- Storytelling for teens with David Robertson
The Burnaby Learning Festival began in 2016 and is a partnership between the city and Simon Fraser University (SFU).
The city says the festival promotes lifelong learning, authentic connection, societal change and capacity building.
