1 Get volunteering on Saturday, Oct. 15 and help remove periwinkle, hops, ivy and scotch broom at Central Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Lower Mainland Green Team is leading this exercise. For more info, go to www.meetup.com/TheLowerMainlandGreenTeam/events/27079341/

2 Get swapping on Sunday, Oct. 16 for the Kidstuff Swap Meet, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bonsor Recreation Complex at 6550 Bonsor Ave. The event has free admission. For more info, call 604-297-4597.

3 Get appreciating Inuit Prints: Japanese Inspiration, an exhibit organized by the Canadian Museum of Civilization, with the assistance of the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative in Cape Dorset, at the National Nikkei Centre at 6688 Southoaks Cres. The exhibit is running until Dec. 3, but this weekend has a couple of special events that coincide with the exhibit. On Saturday, Oct. 15, an opening party goes from 3 to 5 p.m. Admission is by donation. Also, there's an Artist Talk: Taiga Chiba: Visit to Nunavut, at 2 p.m., with admission also by donation.

4 Get dancing on Friday, Oct. 14 for the Swinging in the Rain fundraising dance, at 7 p.m. at the SFU Diamond Alumni Centre at 8888 University Dr. This third annual event, presented by the TB Vets Charitable Foundation, features fabulous entertainment, delectable appetizers, silent auction and more. 5 Get captivated by MachineNoisy's Tempus Fugitive at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Performances are on both Friday and Saturday night, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32 for adults or $27 for students or seniors. 6 Get fired up for Fire Prevention Week with an open house, sponsored by the Burnaby Fire Department, at 4867 Sperling Ave. between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Bring your extra warm, winter apparel and donate it to those in need. Items needed include winter coats, sleeping bags, gloves, toques, long underwear and wool socks. The event is in support of the Progressive Housing Society.
