We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. It runs regularly in our Friday editions. This week, which includes a long weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving, we have one arts event and a whole bunch of sports, including soccer, football and hockey. Here's our Top 5 for this weekend.

1 Get appreciating the final weekend of the Diane Moran exhibit: Creative Connections: A Hand On Approach to Community Art, on display at the Deer Lake Gallery at 6584 Deer Lake Ave. until Oct. 8.

Here's your last chance to check out some impressive work by a local artist. The exhibit is on display during normal gallery hours.

2 Get cheering for the number-1 AAA high school football team in the province. On Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., the St. Thomas More Knights host the W.J. Mouat Hawks at Burnaby Lake-West. The Knights are coming off a bye week and a 55-28 thrashing of Holy Cross two weeks ago. The Knights hope to continue their dream season by beating a traditional Abbotsford powerhouse. Tickets are available at the gate.

3 Get supporting the beautiful game on Sunday, Oct. 9 when Rovers United host Rino's Vancouver FC at noon at Burnaby's Confederation Field in Vancouver Metro League u-21 soccer action.

While the soccer elitists of the Lower Mainland watch European football on television or the Vancouver Whitecaps in their new downtown soccer pitch, true soccer fans can brave the elements and cheer on the future futbol stars of tomorrow locally. Best of all, it's free. Just show up and watch some great soccer.

4 Get hockey-mad on Sunday, Oct. 9 for some local Pacific International Junior Hockey when the Grandview Steelers host the North Delta Devils at 4 p.m. at the Burnaby Winter Club. The Steelers provide an exciting brand of hockey and once featured current NHLer Kyle Turris. While everybody else is watching the opening weekend of the NHL season, go and enjoy some affordable local hockey in our own back yard.

5 Get rooting for the SFU Clan on Saturday, Oct. 8 when the Burnaby Mountain squad looks for its first Greater Northwest Athletic Conference win against visiting Dixie State at Fox Field at 2 p.m.

The Clan have had a tough time since their move to the NCAA but they have had exciting performances from running back Bo Palmer and quarterback Trey Wheeler. Add in a former Notre Dame star, Steve Spagnuolo and you have a pretty high caliber of football. Tickets are available at the door.
