This year's Cops for Cancer fundraiser is April 10, 2021.

A Whistler police officer is teaming up with a local pizzeria in the fight against cancer.

Whistler RCMP Cst. Jessica Mucha is riding in this year’s Cops for Cancer event, a five-day cycling tour through the Lower Mainland, scheduled for September, that will see her ride approximately 100 kilometres a day with her team in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Cancer is something that affects everyone in different ways and given the hardships that many have gone through in 2020 I believe it is time to give back,” Mucha wrote on her fundraising page.

Mucha has so far raised nearly $2,200 of her $4,000 goal, and on April 10, is joining forces with Avalanche Pizza, which will donate 15 per cent of all pick-up pizzas sold. The funds raised will go towards leading-edge research into more than 100 types of cancer, programs and services that support cancer patients and their families, as well as advocacy to governments on cancer-related issues.

“It would mean so much to me, the Canadian Cancer Society and those affected with cancer if any type of donation could be contributed—anything would be appreciated, no matter the amount,” Mucha wrote.

Cops for Cancer was started in 1997 by a single police officer looking to make a difference. It has since grown to include law enforcement agencies across the country, and has raised nearly $48 million in that time for the Canadian Cancer Society.
