Wildlife Rescue Association robbed

Thief (or thieves) took a computer but nothing else.

The Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C. was the target of a break-in over the weekend.

A secure, locked computer was ripped out, but nothing else was stolen from the wildlife centre, headquartered at Burnaby Lake.

After the alarm was triggered early Saturday morning, around 2 a.m., association director Glenn Boyle attended the scene.  The intruder tried to enter through a window then managed to break in through a locked back door.
“The WRA survives on the generosity and goodwill of local people, and it is very disheartening to experience such a senseless, selfish act,” Boyle said in a media release. “As a charitable society, we have a very tight budget and an unexpected financial setback like this squeezes our finances even more. With baby bird season just around the corner, we need additional funds to pay for extra supplies, equipment and food for around 2,000 animals between May and August, so this is going to set us back, and it’s going to be tough to cover the costs in the short term.”

The association just bought the computer a few months prior and will now have to go back to a paper-based system to manage volunteer activities. While the association has insurance, the deductible is still $1,000.
