The District of North Vancouver has begun work to replace an 80-metre segment of boardwalk along the Baden Powell Trail in Lynn Canyon Park as part of its Parks Infrastructure Renewal Program. The Lynn Canyon boardwalk featured is not the section being replaced.

There’ll soon be a fresh boardwalk to stroll on in Lynn Canyon Park.

The District of North Vancouver has begun work to replace an 80-metre segment of boardwalk along the Baden Powell Trail as part of its parks infrastructure renewal program.

Signage will be posted in the area where works are taking place, from Dempsey Point Road to the Suspension Bridge, to inform trail users.

Cassie Brondgeest, district communications co-ordinator, said the structure is at the end of its service life and is being replaced as part of the district’s asset management program to ensure public safety and environmental protection.

She said trail users could expect a new boardwalk structure of similar size and length.

Brondgeest explained that boardwalks in the park had to be replaced every 25 to 30 years.

“Factors such as type of wood used, trail conditions (wet versus dry), and level of use will influence the overall lifespan of the structure,” she said.

The boardwalk replacement will cost the district $250,000, including all materials, helicopter services to deliver materials to the worksite, and a full-time crew of four people.

Residents no longer have to worry about helicopter noise from deliveries, as all project materials have now been dropped off.

Residents are advised to use caution when passing through the construction zone. The district anticipates the project will be completed by the end of July 2021, and thanks residents for their patience.

The district is also reminding residents that the suspension bridge remains closed but the Pipeline Bridge and Twin Falls Bridge are open.
