Workshops deal with seniors neglect, abuse

“I’ve watched my neighbour slowly isolate herself since her husband died, and now I know what to do about it,” remarked a participant in the Voices of Burnaby Seniors workshop on June 8.

“I’ve watched my neighbour slowly isolate herself since her husband died, and now I know what to do about it,” remarked a participant in the Voices of Burnaby Seniors workshop on June 8.

The event was titled the Decision Tree: How You Can Help Address Seniors' Abuse, Neglect and Self-Neglect, and was facilitated by Susan Moore from the B.C. Association of Community Response Networks. This was the first in a series of workshops to be sponsored by VOBS.

“It was a great turnout,” said Tazul Ali, chair of VOBS, “and the presentation really helped to get the word out within the community about how to recognize and help seniors in situations of neglect or abuse.”

VOBS will be co-hosting its next workshop on June 21 with Burnaby Seniors Resource Society, focusing on financial, online and physical safety for seniors at Bonsor Recreation Centre beginning at 1 pm. To register, or for more information about VOBS events, email [email protected]
