World-record effort in city

Chaffey-Burke students helped break a world record in 'stacking'

Students at Burnaby's Chaffey-Burke Elementary participated in 2012 Stack Up on Nov. 15, an event meant to break last year's Guinness World Record for the most people sport stacking in multiple locations on the same day.

The event was spearheaded by the World Sport Stacking Association, a group that promotes stacking, which involves setting up cups in various configurations as quickly as possible.

According to the association, last year's record of 412,259 participating stackers was broken.

Final numbers are still being verified, but the last count at press time was 468,454 according to the association's website.

More than 2,600 groups and schools from around the world participated in this year's record-breaking event.
