The Lower Mainland Green Team is looking for young volunteers to help rid a local park of invasive species this coming Wednesday.
The Lower Mainland Green Team is a group of volunteers who work on projects to improve the environment, and on Wednesday, May 9 they are focusing their efforts on Lubbock's Wood Park, close to Canada Way and Burris Street.
According to the Green Team, the park is overrun with ivy that's choking the trees.
The Lubbock's Wood Park event runs from 9: 30 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers will get a letter confirming the hours they've put in.
Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided.
The Green Team organizes events through Meetup.com. To sign up, go to http: //bit.ly/ LubbocksWoodParkEvent.
SPRING CLEAN
There's another opportunity this weekend to clean up the city and meet your neighbours.
The Edmonds Business and Community Association is hosting a spring clean on Saturday, May 5, where volunteers spend the day picking up garbage and removing graffiti.
The cleaning session takes place along the Edmonds corridor, in the Highgate area, and in the Byrne Creek ravine.
To get involved, show up at Gordon Presbyterian Church at 7457 Edmonds St. on Saturday at 9: 45 a.m. (If you want to work in the Byrne Creek area, meet the Byrne Creek Streamkeepers at Edmonds SkyTrain at 9: 45 a.m.)
The cleaning runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Afterwards, everyone will gather at the church for a barbecue and there will be some live entertainment as well.
The event goes on, rain or shine, so make sure you dress accordingly.
The association will outfit volunteers with garbage pickers, safety vests and gloves. For more information, go to www. edmondsbca.org.
