The Alpha Aztecs gave it their best in the Vancouver & District high school junior girls' soccer final.
The Aztecs dropped a 2-1 decision to North Vancouver's Seycove Secondary in the championship final at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex-West on Tuesday.
"We just couldn't get going until the second half," said first-year Aztec coach Nikesh Mehta.
Trailing 2-0 after a pair of first-half counters by Seycove, Alpha staged a comeback and were finally rewarded when Cali Colangeli scored to pare the deficit in half.
In the first half, Alpha keeper Nicki Gerbrandt stopped a penalty shot, but the ensuing rebound fell to the Seycove shooter who put it in the back of the net for the game's opening goal.
The loss was the first this season for Alpha, which carried a huge roster of 29 players.
