Alpha's Savkovic scores gold at provincials

Burnaby secondary school boys catapulted to the front of the class at the provincial championships, hosted by Moscrop earlier this month.

Taking first all-around in Level 1 was Alpha’s Sava Savkovic, who picked up three golds en route to the title with 72.750 points. He topped the parallel bars, the horizontal bars and pommel horse, picked up bronze on floor and rings, and finished fourth on vault.

Savkovic edged out Moscrop’s Cameron Louie, who placed second all-around, with a gold on rings, silver on vault, and bronze on floor, horizontal bars and pommel horse. Louie stood fourth on uneven bars to score a total of 72.150.

The Moscrop Panthers, powered by the highest mark in combined boys score and a solid turnout with the girls squad, placed fifth overall in aggregate total among 67 teams.

The Panthers’ girls squad posted the sixth-best tally, led by a third all-around performance from Level 1 senior Michelle Mai. Mai took gold on parallel bars and placed fourth overall on vault.

Coming in seventh was Fiorella Ravelli, with her best score a fou rth overall on floor.

Mary Liu finished fourth in Level 1 junior girls, with the top score on floor.
