Athletes of the year named at Burnaby South

Athletes of the year and top sportsmanship awards given out to graduating seniors at South.

Tyus Batiste and Amie Morrison were named Burnaby South Secondary’s male and female athlete of the year.

Batiste won the Bill Gray Trophy as the outstanding Grade 12 boy, while Morrison won the Diane Murphy Trophy as the outstanding senior girl at the school’s recent athletic awards.

Senior sportsmanship awards went to Julie Nguyen and Raghu Handa. Grade 12 students Catherine Cayanan, Karan Heer and Bailey Tyacke shared the school’s Admin-Sportsmanship ability in sports award.

Saeed Habib and Ryan Villanueva were both recipients of the Grade 11 outstanding boys’ award, while Ana Lukic won the outstanding girls’ trophy.

Grade 10 winners included Aleks Kalajdzic and Hadie Honardoust in the boys’ category and Graciella Llagas as top female.

Diego Medrano and Jacob Fetchko shared Grade 9 boys’ top athlete and Angie Wakelin and Andrea Sugue were the top juvenile girls.

The bantam boys’ award went to Brandon Obuyes and Kyle Kirmaci, while Jasmine Lyck and Stephanie Zaborniak shared the Grade 8 girls’ top honours.
