Four Burnaby girls enjoyed a bronze medal at the Canadian All-Stars soccer championships in Halifax last Saturday
The B.C. under-15 girls' team, including Mountain United B.C. players Allyson and Christina Dickson and Teagan McManus of Burnaby, and Coquitlam MetroFord SC's Nicole Gerbrandt of Burnaby, scored three goals in the first half to defeat Alberta 3-0 in the bronze-medal final. Ontario took the gold over Quebec by a 3-1 score.
Seina Kashmia of Burnaby was not as lucky, as B.C.'s u-16 girls' team lost the consolation final to Alberta by a 2-0 score. In the u-16 final, Quebec defeated Ontario in a penalty shootout.
At the boys' all-star competition in Mount Pearl, Nfld., B.C. defeated Team Atlantic 2-1 to claim the bronze medal in the u-15 division. Burnaby's Christian Nichele of Mountain United scored a goal for Team B.C. in an earlier 1-1 draw in pool play with Manitoba/Saskatchewan.
B.C.'s u-16 boys, including Mountain United's Daniel Pervan of Burnaby, came away with the second-place medal following a 2-0 loss to Ontario in the championship final.
Megan Lai of Burnaby was named to B.C.'s u-13 girls' team, while Rick Bradshaw, Nathan Graziano and Terrell Smith earned spots on the boys' team. Devon Jones of Burnaby earned a selection to B.C.'s u-14 boys' team.
