The Bulldogs put a crimp in a couple of provincially ranked senior boys teams’ style when they finished 2-1 at the Rod Thomson Basketball tournament at Burnaby South last week.
Unranked at Triple-A, Byrne Creek upended No. 3-rated Lord Byng on Friday to finish third overall at the tourney, which drew a handful of ranked Quad-A schools.
After opening the series by edging host Burnaby South — itself an unranked Quad-A team — 63-57, the Bulldogs matched up against No. 8 seeded Kitsilano. While the Quad-A Blue Demons prevailed 96-94, they needed overtime to do it.
Burnaby South, meanwhile, also finished the tourney with a 2-1 record. The Rebels shook off its opening round loss to Byrne Creek to top Fleetwood Park 72-44, then stopped Quad-A honourable mention Panorama Ridge 66-63 in the consolation final.
Sir Winston Churchill, ranked sixth in Quad-A, won the tourney final 97-74 over Kitsilano.
