Burnaby athletes shared in eight of Zone 4's 11 gold medals at the B.C. Summer Games in Surrey.
Long distance runner Jemal Reta won two individual gold in track and field, winning both the boys' 2,000 metres and 1,500m steeplechase.
Sophia Stevenson also won gold on the track, placing first in the girls' 1,200m. Stevenson also shared in a silver medal with Arianna Dewith of Burnaby in the girls' 4x400m relay.
Synchronized swimmer Claire Hein-Salvi won the Tier 2/3 figures. Hein-Salvi also shared a silver medal with Rachel Nixon in the duet and a team bronze medal with Nixon, Iris Xie and Maria Beskromnova.
Rower Mirha Girt figured in four team medals, including gold in the girls' doubles skills. Girt also shared a silver in the coed quads double elimination and a pair of bronze in girls' doubles and coed quads time trials.
Safi Sharar won an individual gold in the 57-kilogram boys' wrestling final.
Abdullah Saib, Philip Garabandic and Gurpreet Sond all took second-place medals in their respective divisions in a strong showing by Burnaby wrestlers.
Special Olympian swimmer Heather Ma took home three medala, winning the 100m breaststroke, placing second in the 100m individual medley and third in the 50m backstroke.
The Zone 4 team of Michael Baldisimo, Lorenzo De Bei, Alessandro Hojabrpour, Ryan Hum, Adriano Mattarollo, Filip Rakic and Josip Salov of Burnaby also shared in a gold in boys' soccer.
Sprinter Zion CorralesNelson placed second in both the girls' 200 and 300m races. The St. Thomas More runner also earned a bronze medal with Jeanneet Lim of Burnaby in the girls' 4x100m relay.
Kinsey Weir placed second in girls' pole vault, while Ian Prevost won a bronze in boys' javelin.
In water sports, Jacob Haddon won a silver medal in boys' 10 to 13 wakeboarding. Jackson Hammersley won a bronze medal in boys' 14 to 17 jumps.
Back on the track, Special Olympian April Armstrong won silver medals in the 100 and 200m sprints. Armstrong also placed third in the long jump and shot put.
Anthony Cardiff also won a silver Special Olympics medal in the shot put.
Zone 4 teams also picked up bronze medals in boys' baseball and box and field lacrosse.
Lucas Naidu, Jordan Stewart and Nicholas Carusi placed third in baseball, while Cory Sinclair earned a bronze in field lacrosse.
Owen Douglas, Jordan Gabriele and Trevor Peters placed third with the zone box lacrosse team.
The Fraser River Delta zone team placed fourth in aggregate medal standings.
Vancouver IslandCentral Coast topped the medal board with 38 gold and 101 total medals. Fraser Valley was runner-up with 94 medals.
