Burnaby-based figure skater to represent Canada at world junior championships

Burnaby's Aleksa Rakic will compete in the 2023 World Junior Figure Skating Championships at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary from Feb. 27 to March 5. 

Aleksa Rakic will once again be representing his country on the world stage. 

The Burnaby-based figure skater has been tapped to compete in the 2023 World Junior Figure Skating Championships at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary from Feb. 27 to March 5. 

Rakic has previously won the Pre-Novice BC Provincial title, was the champion for Novice Canadian Challenge, gold medalist at the Canadian Junior National in 2019 and represented Canada at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland where just missed the podium, finishing in fourth place. 

The Champs International Skating Centre of BC product also claimed silver at the 2022 Skate Canada Challenge in the senior men category. 

Rakic is coached by Joanne McLeod. 

This season, he was the top placement in Canada for junior men at the 2022 ISU Junior Grand Prix, finishing seventh in Ostrava, Czechia, and finishing fifth in Egna-Neumarkt, Italy.
