The Northwest Giants took a back seat to the Okanagan Rockets, surrendering first place in the B.C. major midget hockey standings after a series defeat in Kelowna.
The Rockets eked out a 2-1 win over the Giants at home on Nov. 9. Okanagan then completed the weekend sweep with a 5-2 victory over the Burnaby-based club the following day.
The losses left the Giants in second place in the 11-team ladder, four points behind the Rockets and a point ahead of the Valley West Hawks.
Quinn Thompson scored the Giants’ only goal in the opening game.
Owen Stout and Justin Szeto tallied single markers in the second game.
Okanagan’s Tyson Jost took over top spot in overall player scoring with 29 points after recording six of the Kelowna team’s seven points, including the game-winning goal in the opener last weekend.
The Giants host the Kootenay Ice for a two-game weekend set at the Burnaby Winter Club Saturday and Sunday. Game times are 7:45 p.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
