After a pointless seven-game major midget hockey trial last season, Northwest Giants Jarid Lukosevicius is having a breakout year.

The 17-year-old forward tallied a hat trick while figuring in on all five goals in the Giants' 5-1 victory over the visiting North Island Silvertips last Saturday.

Lukosevicius also set up Burnaby's Adam Helewska for the game-winning marker in a 3-1 win over the 'Tips at the Burnaby Winter Club on the following day.

With the series wins, the first-place Giants stretched its lead to 12 points over the second-place Cariboo Cougars.

The six-point weekend moved Lukosevicius into the top 20 in scoring with 20 goals and as many helpers.

Helewka leads all Giants with 24 goals and 51 points.

In the opening game, the Giants jumped out to a 3-0 lead before coasting to their 27th win of the season.

Helewka also factored in all five of the Giants' goals, including a pair of goals. Anthony Conti chipped in with three assists.

The following day, Josh Thrower opened the scoring and drew an assist on Helewka's game-winner. Trevor Stack also tallied for the Burnaby-based club.

The Giants close out the regular season on the road against the Okanagan Rockets in Kelowna this weekend.
