Burnaby Dynamo Invitational swim meet a big success at Bonsor

The Dynamo Swim Club placed first at its 10th annual invitatioinal swim meet at Bonsor Pool last weekend. Dynamo topped runner-up Canadian Dolphins by more than 100 points, garnering a 1,560-point team aggregate total.

Nine-year-old Zoe Froh was among a throng of Dynamo gold medallists, winning the 100-metre backstroke, breaststroke and 200m freestyle.

Emily Lukas, 12, won a gold in the 400m free, while Aivery McKenley, also 12, placed first in the 50m breast.

Erin Patterson, 10, won six individual races, including the 50, 100 and 200m free, 50 and 100m back and 200m individual medley.

Ava Ricard, 12, finished first in the 50, 100 and 200m free and 50m back. Helena Zhou, 10, also did well, winning the 50, 100 and 200m breast.

Jike Gao, 12, placed first in six races, touching first in the 50, 100, 200 and 400m free, as well as 50m breast and 200m IM.

Other gold medallists included Ilias Karimalis, Brandon Cai, Samuel Likas, Eric Xion, Nathan Lai and Scott Patterson.

Dynamo also won the parent participation spirit award, and mentions as the best dressed and best cheering team.

Dynamo also hosted the first annual masterss wwim meet at Bonsor pool on Saturday.

The Dynamo masters got excellent results from Elaine McCormack, who was first in both the 50m free and breast. Simon Patterson also won a pair gold, taking top spot in the 100m free and IM. Brian Kinley was a three-event winner, placing first in the 50 and 100m free and 100m IM.

In international news, Scott Patterson, a double-amputee who trains with the Dynamo Swim Club, was named to the Canadian Paralympic swim team for the London Games.

It will be the fourth Paralympic Games for Patterson. The 51-year-old Vancouver resident, who lost both legs in a working accident when he was 20 years old, competed in three previous games in track and field and alpine skiing. He won a bronze medal in the giant slalom at the Salt Lake City Winter Games in 2002.
