After a week off, the Burnaby Lake men’s rugby team is getting set for the Premier League semifinal where the local squad will take on Capilano RFC at home on Saturday.

Division leaders, Burnaby Lake, recently defeated Capilano 25-19 in the team’s final game of the spring season.

Burnaby has had a stellar season so far this year, winning their last 10 games in a row to put them at the top of the premier league division with 13 wins and only one loss.

Last year, the local team also led the league with 10 wins.

For the second year in a row, Burnaby  finished neck and neck with James Bay AA.

Last season, the two teams tied for first place in regular season play but this year Burnaby managed to pull ahead of their Vancouver Island rivals, finishing the season with 13 wins while James Bay finished with 10 wins.

Last season, Burnaby beat the Castaway Wanderers RFC 26-10 in the 2013 semifinals to advance to the finals against James Bay.

After losing 18-10 to James Bay last season in the Rounsefell Cup final in Victoria, Burnaby will be looking to avenge last year’s playoff loss when playoffs kick off on Saturday.

Burnaby will take on fourth place Capilano in the semifinals on April 26. Game starts at 2:45 p.m. at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex.

The winner of Saturday’s game will face off against the winner of the James Bay and Castaway Wanderers match up, also being played on Saturday, in the Rounsefell Cup final on May 10.
