Burnaby’s Jacey Bailey helped B.C.’s under-17 girls’ basketball team to a fourth-place finish at the National championships in Edmonton.
The Burnaby Mountain Secondary senior scored six points and added four rebounds in B.C.’s 70-61 loss to Saskatchewan in the bronze-medal final on Wednesday.
Ontario won the gold medal, defeating defending champion Manitoba 67-55 later in the day.
Bailey scored 12 points and chipped in with seven boards in B.C.’s opening 60-47 victory over New Brunswick on July 24.
The 6-0 forward added 26 more points and a total of 17 rebounds in two more wins against Atlantic Canada competition – Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
B.C.’s first loss in pool play came against the eventual champs from Ontario, 68-33.
The B.C. girls rebounded from that loss to better the host Albertans 63-54, with Bailey contributing 12 points, seven boards and three steals.
In the semifinals, Bailey added seven points, four rebounds and three assists in a 76-62 loss to Manitoba on Tuesday.
