Burnaby guard takes Tiger to AA title

South Burnaby athlete Alisha Roberts led the York House Tigers to their first Crehan Cup title following an 81-65 victory over the Handsworth Royals in the Lower Mainland AAA high school girls' basketball championships on Saturday.

South Burnaby athlete Alisha Roberts led the York House Tigers to their first Crehan Cup title following an 81-65 victory over the Handsworth Royals in the Lower Mainland AAA high school girls' basketball championships on Saturday.

Roberts was named the winner of the the Father John Kitty award as the tournament MVP.

Argyle took the No. 3 Lower Mainland seeding with a 65-48 win over the New Westminster Hyacks, which also qualified for the B.C. championships to be played at Capilano University March 8 to 10.

New Westminster's Ariana Sider and Sharmaine Hayley were both named to the Lower Mainland all-tournament team.

Hayley had a massive 26-point game in New West's 71-55 win over Steveston/ London that guaranteed the Hyacks a berth into the B.C.s.

Hayley also had 12 points and 16 rebounds in the Hyacks' 67-57 loss to Handsworth in the semifinals.
