Two Burnaby hockey players were the stars for the South Carolina Stingrays in opening East Coast Hockey League play.

First star Marcello Ranallo scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner, to lead the 'Rays to a 5-2 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on Oct. 7. Tyler McNeely, who played last season for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American league, was the third star with a pair of assists on Ranallo's goals. McNeely also had a goal and one assist in a later 4-3 victory over the Gladiators.

GOALIE STARS IN WIN/LOSS FOR BIRDS

Brian Stewart was named a game star in two of his first three game starts for the Bakersfield Condors.

The Burnaby goalie blanked the Stockton Thunder 4-0 in his East Coast Hockey League start earlier this month before being named a third star following a 3-2 loss against the Las Vegas Wranglers on Oct. 14.
