The Grandview Steelers put some distance between themselves and fourth-place Delta with two big wins in the Pacific Junior Hockey League last week.
The junior B Steelers knocked off conference doormats Port Moody Panthers 5-2 on Feb. 7 before upsetting second-place Richmond Sockeyes 2-1 in overtime at home on Sunday.
Grandview’s Adam Rota scored in the second period of extra time to give the Burnaby Winter Club-based Steelers their 21st win of the season.
Peter Matthews, with back-to-back goals in the second period, got the game winner against Port Moody. Jordan Hall also tallied a pair for Grandview in the win.
Grandview are in North Vancouver on Saturday before returning home on Sunday to host Delta. Puck drops at 4 p.m.

Simon Fraser University defeated Selkirk College 2-1 in a shootout before falling 5-2 to Eastern Washington University during last week's road swing in B.C. Intercollegiate hockey.
Mathew Berry-Lamontagna tied the score against Selkirk in the third period and then notched the game-winner in the penalty shootout at the Castlegar rec centre on Feb. 6. Jordan Liem was named third star with 32 saves in goal for SFU.
The following night, Michael Sandor and Jono Ceci both drew the visiting Clan to within a single goal of Eastern Washington in the first and second periods before the U.S. hosts potted a pair of empty netters in the final moments of the third period.
SFU takes on Trinity Western University at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Valentine's Day. Game time is 7 p.m.
