Goalie Kimberly Newell and defender Kaleigh Fratkin were among the 40 players invited to attend Canada's national women's development team selection camp later this month.

Newell, a freshman starter at Princeton University last season and just 18, is the youngest of four goalies at the camp to be held at Hockey Canada's home arena at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary from Aug. 10 to 18.

Newell backstopped Canada's national women's under-18 team to the gold medal at the 2013 women's world championships in Heinola, Finland.

At 21 years of age, Fratkin is in her final go-round with the national under-22 program.

Prior to earning a hockey scholarship at Boston University, the incoming senior was the first female to play on a B.C. major midget boy's hockey team, helping the Northwest Giants win a provincial title in 2010. She also shared a silver medal with Canada's u-18 team at the 2009 worlds.

Following the week-long camp, Hockey Canada will name 13 development team players to join the 27 players from the senior team in preparation for selection of Canada's team to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
