Burnaby kids picked for B.C. box lacrosse teams

Tavin Grant and Lucas Greene of Burnaby were named along with Naoll Degife of New Westminster to the bantam boys' team for the Commissioners national championships to be held in Whitby, Ont. in August.

Four New West players, Cole Catton, John Edin, Harjot Mahal and Finn Stark, all made it on the provincial peewee boys' roster for the national festival.

The boys' nationals will run from Aug. 4 through 12.

Ontario has dominated the bantam boys' division for the past four years.

A B.C. team won a natioinal peewee boys' title in 2008.

On the girls' side, Amber Gilmore, Amie Morrison, Jolene Robinson and Kaitlyn Yan of Burnaby made the roster of the midget girls' team that will compete at the national female championships to be held in Victoria from July 29 to Aug. 2.

New Westminster girls Jenna Chernoff, Courtney Kearnes and Nicole Shanks also earned spots on the midget girls' team.

Royal City girls completely dominated the bantam lineup, placing eight of the 19 players on the provincial squad.

Bianca Ballarin, Katie Browning, Nicole Del Grosso, Monica Disanjh, Chole Nottingham, Madisen Obrovac, Keeley O'Neill and Nadine Stewart were named to the team from New West. Carlene Spagnuolo of Burnaby also earned a spot on the bantam squad.
