The Burnaby firsts won 62-13, while the elite XV went one point better, taking a 63-18 decision at Connaught Park in Vancouver.

Burnaby South grad Nolan Shelley made a good showing in his premier division debut with the Lakers.

In the first-division match, team captain Aaron Reid and Fuku Vikilani were the main beneficiaries of back row forward Mark Whelan's inspired play.

Guiseppe Laudisio and Garrett Grimshire also scored in their Burnaby Lake debuts.

In third division action, the Vancouver Rowing Club spoiled Burnaby's opening exhibition start by a 25-7 score.

Craig McLaughlin, Gave Raymond and Scott Breadon turned in strong outings for the blue and white.

The Burnaby senior women opened with a 46-7 win over United in Tier 1 action.

The Tier 2 women were not so lucky, falling 51-12 to United at Hume Park.
