Burnaby Lake takes three of four from Caps

Premier division Burnaby Lake men need their best in final three regular season games

Burnaby Lake moved to within six points of James Bay for the fourth playoff spot in B.C. Rugby’s premier men’s division.

Last week, the premier Lakers held third-place Capilano scoreless, handing the North Shore its second straight loss, following a 24-3 victory at Klahanie Park.

Burnaby Lake is currently in fifth place with a record of 4-6-1 with three games left to play in the regular men’s spring season, while also holding two games in hand over James Bay.

The Burnaby club takes on sixth-place UBC Old Boys, who are on a three-game winning streak, following a 33-22 win over James Bay last weekend.

Burnaby Lake’s James Reekie is currently in sixth place in overall scoring with 68 points on two tries, eight penalty goals and 17 converts.

Joe Dolesau and Stu Vincent are among a group of tryscorers with six scores apiece.

The University of Victoria currently leads second-place University of British Columbia by three points atop the premier men’s division ladder.

In premier Division 1, Burnaby Lake took an important two points from league leader Capilanos with a 20-7 victory over the first-place North Shore club.

Burnaby’s Nolan Shelley continues to lead all scorers with 91 points, including one try, 14 penalties and 22 conversions.

The Burnaby Lake Mainland league third division side slipped to fourth place in pool A after a 33-10 loss to host Caps last week.

Scribes RFC leapfrogged Burnaby Lake into third place following last week’s 50-0 win over Chilliwack.

Capilano moved to 5-1-0 with the win over Burnaby Lake.

In women’s rugby, Burnaby Lake moved ahead of idle Seattle into second place in the premier division with a come-from-behind 31-17 win over Capilano.

Burnaby Lake, came back from a 12-0 deficit to defeat Capilano and move to 6-3, while provincial rival Velox remained a perfect 9-0 following a 93-0 whalloping of Bayside.

Genevieve Gratton leads all Burnaby Lake scorers with 49 points, including four tries. Katie Grudzinski and SFU’s Jess Harvey have eight tries apiece in regular season spring play.
