Burnaby Lake win rugby 7s Summer Series

Burnaby Lake Rugby Club swept both the elite men's and women's titles at this year's B.C. Rugby Summer 7s Series. Burnaby Lake Lighthouse finished on top of the men's division with a total of 46 points, 18 ahead of the runner-up Bayside Selects.

Burnaby won the Lighthouse tourney and was runner-up at the SFU and James Bay 7s.

The Burnaby Lake women were unbeatable for a second consecutive season, winning all five tournaments this season.

The Burnaby women opened the summer series with a 12-5 win over Velox in the Cup final at the Buccaneer 7s and then followed that up with a 27-10 win over the Washington-based Emerald City Mudhens at the Vancouver tourney.

Burnaby blew through the SFU Highland competition, blanking the Meraloma club 34-0 in the final.

As hosts, Burnaby were no more congenial to the Lomas, handing the series runner-up a 36-7 pasting to take a stranglehold on the women's series title.

In Abbotsford, Burnaby made it a perfect five-for-five, defeating Capilano 22-12 in the cup final.
