Burnaby lawn bowls club opening

The South Burnaby Lawn Bowls Club officially opened the 2012 bowling season on Saturday, April 28 at the club's Central Park location. This is the 97th year of continuous operation of lawn bowling in Burnaby for the club.

On hand for the opening ceremonies were Mayor Derek Corrigan, Parks, Recreation and Cultural commission chair Sav Dhaliwal, MLA for Burnaby Deer Lake Kathy Corrigan and Jacqueline Omstead, general manager of the Mulberry retirement residences. High tea and muffins were served in the clubhouse prior to the dignitairies each rolling a ceremonial bowl to open the season. Sixty-four club members were present for the opening ceremonies.

The club is looking forward to the upcoming season and to hosting the lawn bowls events of the Seniors Games being hosted by the City of Burnaby in August.
