Youth hoping to play football this season will have to look to neighbouring cities, following the dissolution of Burnaby Minor Football Association early last week.
The end of minor football in Burnaby comes after association president, Mike Carney, stepped down because there wasn't enough commitment from parents.
"While there were some fine parents and adults that stepped up, there just weren't enough," Carney told the Now.
Much to Carney's dismay, the remainder of the board members quit shortly after his resignation from the association, which he founded, organized and had been running for the past seven seasons.
While Carney admitted that other factors, including the association's struggle to get regular field time in Burnaby, played a part in the crumbling of the football club, it was the lack of volunteers that was the main problem.
"I had a number of kids that played with us for six years and their parents never once saw a game or a practice," he said. "I'm just devastated that I just couldn't go on but sometimes that's life."
