Burnaby Mountain names athletes of the month

Lions grad also garners coach of the month for swimming

Burnaby Mountain Secondary named its coach and athletes for the month of October.
Eric Cheng, a Grade 12 Mountain student, earned the male athlete of the month for October in volleyball.
The Lions team captain lives up to that role in every sense.

Eric is the team’s most consistent hitter and often comes through when the team needs a big point. His coach counts on him to organize and rally his team both on and off the court. He does all of this while coaching the juvenile girls’ volleyball and also volunteering to work at other home games.
Grade 11 Lion Robyn Lee is the female athlete of the month.
Robyn is a competitive swimmer, who won two silver medals at the zone swimming meet in individual events, as well as sharing a gold and bronze medaly in relays. Her points were instrumental in helping Mountain bring the girls’ aquatics banner and the overall team banners to our gym.  Robyn will be competing at the provincials for our school this weekend.

In addition, Robyn finished eighth in the senior girls’ division at the zone cross-country meet and was also a part of bringing that team banner to our gym as well.
Marianna Hodanic, a Burnaby Mountain alumni, is the October coach of the month.
Marianna starting coaching swimmers last year and has grown the team exponentially this year. She was able to organize and train a number of athletes outside of the school, which is no small feat. Her dedication to the team and her ability to coach the athletes helped lead our swim teams to winning three Aquatics banners in our district and the boys’ zone championship.
