Swimmer medals at Pan Am Games and wrestler to quarter-finals in Spain

Burnaby's Stefan Milosevic won bronze medal with Canada's 200-metre men's freestyle relay team at the Pan AM Games in Toronto.

Cariboo Hill grad Stefan Milosevic got an early birthday present, sharing a bronze medal with Canada’s 200-metre freestyle men’s relay team at the Pan Am Games in Toronto on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Milosevic, who currently swims with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds team, turns 20 next week.

The Burnaby swimmer shared the medal with national team members Alec Page, Jeremy Bagshow and Olympic medalist Ryan Cochrane.

Canada finished third behind Brazil and the U.S.

Wrestler in top eight at Spanish Grand Prix

Burnaby’s Darthe Capellan finished in eighth place at the Spanish Grand Prix of wrestling in Madrid last week.

The St. Thomas More Collegiate grad defeated Patryk Olenczyn of Poland 11-0 in his opening bout at 57 kilograms, but lost the ensuing quarter-final by a narrow 3-1 score to Spain’s Juan Pablo Gonzalez.

The Canadian team won five medals in Spain, including a gold by Erica Wiebe at 75kg.

New course record for Burnaby runner

Andrew Juni won the MEC Vancouver Trail Race No. 5, placing first with a new course record at Mundy Park last week. The St. Thomas More athlete competed the 10-kilometre run in a time of 35:39.
