Burnaby summer swim clubs will be competing at the Simon Fraser region championships at Spani Pool in Coquitlam this weekend.

B.C. Junior Linkster Tour golfer Eason Chen of Burnaby finished in third place at the Junior World Championships in San Diego last week.

With the third-place finish in the five-and-six-year-old boys’ division, Eason earned an exemption to next year’s world championship tournament.

Eamon Chen of Burnaby just missed one of the five exemptions with a sixth-place finish.

Jay Xu of Burnaby placed 10th in the 7/9 boys’ age group, while Malaina Sidhu of Burnaby finished in 66th place in the 9/10 girls’ division at the California competition.

More than 1,000 junior boys and girls aged five to 17 took part in San Diego.

Next up on the tour is the Little Masters golf championships, a 72-hole event for kids up to 18 from Aug. 10 to 13.

Bowlers medal at BCs

Josephine Lee of Burnaby picked up a pair of medals at recent provincial lawn bowling competitions.

Lee, who bowls at the New Westminster club in Moody Park, shared a silver medal with Marlene Cleutinx and Rita Patterson in the provincial women’s triples. She also won a third-place medal with Rainbow Lung at the B.C. women’s pairs championship.

Burnaby’s James MacGowan skipped his team of Kin On Lau and Michael Leung to the gold in the provincial men’s triples.

Sporting win cup

Khalsa Sporting Club won the Sheila Anderson Memorial Cup for the sixth time in club history following a 1-0 victory over the Victoria Highlanders at Trillium Turf last month.

Khalsa advanced to the Pacific Coast Soccer League premier men’s playoff final with a 4-1 upset win over regular season champion Vancouver United. Victoria edged the Mid-Isle Mariners 1-0 in the other semifinal.

Khalsa’s Carlo Basso led the premier men’s scoring this season with 10 goals.

Van Isle wins teen gold

New Westminster couldn’t stop a Vancouver Island sweep at the B.C. intermediate lacrosse championships in Langley last weekend.

The Salmonbellie teens fell 14-7 in the intermediate A gold-medal final to the Victoria Shamrocks.

Coquitlam claimed the bronze medal 12-8 over Langley.

In the intermediate B final, the Cowichan Valley Thunder knocked off previously unbeaten Coquitlam 9-5 to bring Vancouver Island the spoils in both divisions.

Delta also pulled off an upset at the provincials, downing third-seeded Ridge Meadows to earn the bronze.
