It has been quite the season for the Burnaby Oakeys under-16A girls' fastpitch team.

The Burnaby girls will get an opportunity many girls don't, after earning a bearth into the u-16A national chapiompionships being held in Brantford, Ont. Aug 7 to 12. The Oakeys won the bronze at the provinical chamiponships held in North Delta last weekend.

The Oakeys success began early in the season following a trip to Las Vegas in February where they finished third. This season also saw them earn gold at the Richmond Invitational, bronze at the Valley Invite College recruting Tournament in Oregen and silver at the Canadian Open fastpitch tournament earlier in July.

The Squint Lake girls are definatley on a roll and are hoping to continue that success with the medal streak in Brantford.

The girls travelling to the nationals include: Arielle Charuk, Emma Tuson, Madison Newman, Stefanie Polderman, Cristina Soares, Annabel Irwin, Shannon Quon, Katie Reyes, Kaela Ponte, Carmen Wong and Katie Sears. The Oakeys also picked up three additional players, Lauren Watson, Paige Taylor and Alex Cook.

Coaches Sherman Quon, Quentin Newman and Sean Wong will also make the trip. Unable to attend will be assistant coaches and former university fastball players, Brittany Mayers and Cassiy Lee, who were both instrumental in the Oakey's success this season.

The Oakeys are looking for corparate help to offset the cost of travelling to the nationals. Any donations or sponsorships would be appreciated, and proudly displayed on our team banner. Interested businesses may contact head coach Sherman Quon or Manager Susan Charuk by email at [email protected].
