The Burnaby Lakers picked up their second straight win, beating the Tri-City Mavericks 2-0 in under-13 girls field hockey action last week.
Burnaby took the lead on a well-executed play in the circle, capped by Ramnique Rai’s shot. They doubled the lead when Jenna Khanji curled past a larger defender and buried the ball past the Tri-City netminder.
Also key in the win was the play of the defensive crew, including Chelsea Buckoll, Sarah Gallant, Mika Melles and Ganika Parmar. The defence did a tremendous job tackling and distributing the ball when it counted.
The win boosted the Lakers into third place in their Tier 2 division, with one game remaining in the season.
