Capilano University won the silver medal in PacWest provincial men's soccer championships thanks to a lot of help from players from Burnaby.

Freshman Chris Diabikulu, a Byrne Creek Secondary grad, scored Capilano's only goal in a 2-1 loss to defending Canadian collegiate champion Vancouver Island University in the gold-medal final in Okanagan Oct. 30.

Trailing 2-0 after the first half of play, Diabikulu counted Cap's only goal of the game from 25 yards out.

In the semifinals, Diabikulu again tallied Capilano's only goal late in the game in a 1-0 win over the University of Northern B.C. on the Saturday.

Earlier in the tournament, the tournament top forward, Lucas Sweda, a first-year product from Burnaby Central, scored a goal in the 49th minute to give the North Shore school a 1-0 victory over Langara in the quarter-finals.

In league play, Capilano finished second behind Vancouver Island in Group B play.

Sweda finished in a tie for fifth place overall league scoring, along with fellow Burnaby product Marcos Teodoro Da Silva, with five counters.
