Burnaby Central junior Sophia Stevenson and Grade 10 Byrne Creek student Jemal Reta will lead all Burnaby runners at the B.C. high school provincial cross-country championships this weekend in Prince George.
Stevenson, the individual zone winner, and the zone champion girls' team from Central, including Reesa Wright, Natasha Louie, Cali Stinson, Sara Brinkac, Angelina Stephenson and Karis Ducharme, qualified for the provincials at the zone championships at Queen's Park in New Westminster last Wednesday.
The Burnaby Mountain team of Jacey Bailey, Robyn Lee, Kayla Clark, Sarah Hardjowasito, Julia Hodanic, Nuala Turner and Lara Kuehnie also qualified for the B.C.s.
Other individual qualifiers included Nicole Dispirito and Kristyn Lee of Burnaby North, Alpha's Kelly Pickthall, Jennifer Shannon and Sara Eng of Burnaby South and Byrne Creek runner Samantha Harrison.
On the boys' side, Josh Lim, Ashneel Varma, Matthew Pomponio, Andrew Lui, MacKenzie Burns, Ayrton Bundrock and Lucas Oriecuia make up the Burnaby Central team.
Jaryn Bailey, Justin Nelson, Gulled Farah, Olher Portogarrero, Vince Park and Ty Christieson make up a team from Mountain.
Also earning berths into the B.C.s were Grade 8 runners Dawson Franks of South and Victor Dimerco of North, and Moscrop students Kevin Charpentier and Julian Hart.
The provincials will be run on Saturday, Nov. 3.
