Burnaby schools do well at V&D track meet

The Grade 8 student came close to a clean-sweep in the bantam girls' division, winning both the 400 metres and the long jump, while placing runner-up in the 100m sprint. Celine Loriot of Burnaby South was third in the 400m.

Another bantam South athlete Cali Glover had a couple of strong finishes, winning the bantam girls' javelin and placing third in the discus throw.

Glenbrook students Emily Chilton and Keja Davis won the girls' 1,500m and triple jump, respectively. Jaime Lee of Glenbrook placed third in the 1,500m.

Also earning podium finishes were runner-up Burnaby South's Faith Radtke in the high jump and Angelina Stevenson of Central in the 800m.

BurWest runners dominated the juvenile girls' track events.

Nina Schultz of New Westminster won the 200m, while placing first in the triple jump with a leap of 10.41 metres.

Michelle Au of Burnaby North was first in the 400m, while Burnaby Central's Natasha Louie won the 800m and was second in the 1,500m to Jennifer Shannon of South.

Kayli Jemieson of Central, third in the 1,500m, was a winner at the 3,000m distance.

Placing third were Jacey Bailey of Mountain in the long jump and Lizzie Morrison in the shot put.

In the junior girls' category, Raquel Milosavlijevic of Central won both the 100 and 200m.

Celeste Bain of New West won the 800m and Charlotte Choi of Moscrop beat schoolmate Jessica Lim in the triple jump.

Janette Lim of South was third in both the 100m and shot put.

Other top-three junior girls were Lily Xiong of North, second in the 1,500m, Sara Pomponio of Central, third in the 400m and Amber Huang of South, third in the javelin.

On the boys' side of the track, Burnaby Central won the juvenile boys' aggregate with a combined score of 88 points.

Nathan Mah helped out the Grade 9 boys, winning the 100m over runner-up Nathan McCarnan of North and the 200m over North's Shervan Gheidi and third-place finisher Marco Sherwood of Central. Sherwood also placed third in the triple jump. McCarnan was also third in the shot put.

Matthew Mah of Central placed first in the 3,000m over teammate Josh Lim and Moscrop's Alex Manak. He also was third in the 1,500m. Lim was second in the javelin.

Bio Yoon also scored points for Central, placing third in the 800m.

Mountain's Dylan Schaefer won the 400m and was second at 800m. Omar Rowe of North was third in the long jump.

In the junior division, Arsheel Varma of Central was second in both the 400 and 800m.

Alan Wang of Moscrop placed third in the 200m and Bryan Hong of Mountain came third in the long jump.

Glenbrook's Noah Wright helped the New Westminster middle school place second in the bantam boys' aggregate, winning the 200m and finishing second in the sprint. Wright also finished third in the long jump.

Matthew Dehilly-Sturrock of Glenbrook won the javelin throw and was second in both the discus and shot put.

Dawson Franks of South won the 400m over third-place Alex Yemane of Glenbrook.

David Remedios of North was second in the 800m, Brandon Wong of South was second in the 1,500m, Noah MacMurchy of New West was second in the 3,000m with Moscrop's Owen Stimpson right behind in third.

Mercutio Bosnjak of Glenbrook also placed second in the discus.
