The Burnaby Selects Metro youth soccer club has entered a working relationship with recently promoted Estrella de Chile of the Vancouver Metro Soccer League.

The Burnaby Metro program were looking for a working affiliation with an established VMSL club after the Sapperton Rovers gave up its interests earlier this year to a group now working out of the Whalley area in Surrey.

"This is a really good fit for us," said under-21 head coach John Penman. "I think it's a really good team and will be quite competitive."

The Burnaby-based Chilean club will operate a team in the premiership and in the under-21 division of the VMSL.

Estrella de Chile won promotion from Division 1 last season.

"(Estrella de Chile) knows it's important to get the youth involved, and that's why they approached us," Penman added. "I really like their setup."

The open and u-21 teams will alternate their Friday night home allotment at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex-West. Game time on Fridays is 8 p.m.

Estrella de Chile FC also operates a youth academy for youth players in the Burnaby and New Westminster areas.
