Two Burnaby figure skaters were given international assignments by Skate Canada following the national figure skating championships.
Nineteen-year-old Nicole Orford of Burnaby and partner Thomas Williams, 20, of Okotoks, Alta. were named to the Canadian ice dance team for the junior world championships.
Orford and Williams placed sixth in their first appearance in the senior division at the Canadian championships in Moncton, N.B. last week.
Nam Nguyen, just 13, was also selected alongside B.C. teammate Liam Firus, 19, to represent Canada at the International Skating Union world figure skating championships in Minsk, Belarus from Feb. 27 to March 4.
Nguyen, who competed at the senior level at the nationals after winning the junior title the year before, will be making his international debut in the former Soviet republic.
Nguyen posted a fifth-best free skate score of 121.96 at the nationals.
